Scholarship Name and Criteria

Ongoing through May, 2024

The Athens Area Education Association Community Service Award recognizes one senior for this honor.  This is based on volunteerism of 100 certified hours.  

 

The student selected will receive a $500 scholarship, 

sponsored by the Athens Area Education Association.

 

The following criteria apply:

  •  AAHS graduating senior in good academic standing over a 4-year high school career
  • Successful completion of a minimum 100 hours of community service – certified by the organization for whom the student volunteered
  • Enrollment at a higher institution of learning (2 or 4 year)

 

 

Application availability will be announced in the spring.

Equitable Excellence Scholarship

100 students will receive a one-time award of $2500.

100 students will receive a $5,000 annual award, renewable for 4 years for a total of $20,000.

 

To be eligible to apply, you must:

  • be a US citizen
  • be a current high school senior planning to enroll in an accredited two-year or four-year college or university in the United States
  • demonstrate ambition and self-drive to be a force for good in school, community, or work activities
  • be willing to provide a release to publicize your identity and information about your achievements along with photographs for use in the Program promotion/information
  • have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (81%)

GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program

 

This national program awards college scholarships to high school seniors who embody the characteristics of President Ronald Reagan at school, in the community, in the workplace, and at home.  This program awards numerous college-bound students with $10,000 renewable scholarships (up to $40,000 per recipient)

Pennsylvania JCI Senate Scholarship Program

The PA JCI Senate annually sponsors a scholarship for senior students who are residents of PA.  They will award two $750 scholarships this year.  

 

The two recipients’ applications will then be considered for an additional national grant of $1,000.

GUTHRIE SCHOLARSHIP 2024 application materials are now available in the Guidance Office.  The scholarships are valued at $650 per year, renewable for a maximum of four years for undergraduate studies.

 

Criteria for Health Professions Scholarships:

  • High school seniors who plan to enter, in the summer or fall of 2024, an accredited college, university, hospital-based nursing, or allied health program to pursue careers in health professions, including hospital administration or medical research.

 

Criteria for Guthrie Employee Scholarships:

  • High school seniors who are children of full-time Guthrie employees and plan to enroll in an accredited junior college, college or university in the summer or fall of 2024.  Any career interest is eligible.  Students can also apply for the Health Professions Scholarship if all the criteria for that scholarship are met.

Children of physicians and dentists affiliated with Guthrie are not eligible for any of these scholarships.

Elks National Foundation Legacy Awards scholarship program offers scholarships worth $4000 each to the children and grandchildren of Elks members.

 

Eligibility:

College-bound high school seniors who are the children or grandchildren of a living Elk whose dues are paid through 3/31/24 are welcome to apply. 

 

Applicants are judged on the core values of the Elks National Foundation:  Knowledge, Charity, Community Service, and Integrity.

Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes, Inc. offers scholarships to students at our high school.  

 

Specifically, Athens students are eligible for “The First Tee of Corning Scholarship” and “Twin Tiers Youth for Christ Scholarship.”

The Foundation is a non-profit public organization funded by a combination of individual gifts and many different estates, or parts of estates that have been donated by members of the Elmira-Corning community.

To qualify for one of six $8,000 PSECU Scholarships, the applicant must be a PSECU member by February 29, 2024.

Northeastern Pennsylvania Council of Teachers of Mathematics

2023 Blair E. Caboot Memorial Scholarship

 

The NPCTM annually presents a $750 scholarship to a deserving senior from northeastern PA.  The scholarship applicant should excel in mathematics in high school and have future plans in a mathematics-related field.

A transcript and recommendation letter from one of the student’s mathematics teachers is required.

The United Steelworkers (USW) Hugh Carcella Scholarship Program  offers scholarships each year with a total value of $4,000 ($1,000 per year for four years)

Eligibility Requirements:

*  Applicant must be son or daughter of a member of the United

    Steelworkers, District 10 in good standing with the local union; or

    son or daughter of disabled, retired, or deceased member of an

    affiliated local union who was in good standing with the

    United Steelworkers at the time of retirement or death.

*  Graduating Senior

*  Scholarship for use in an accredited college or university in the US

    or Canada, following course of study normally leading to a

    bachelor’s degree.  A two-year community college is acceptable

    when matriculating toward a four-year bachelor’s degree program.

 

Applications may be obtained, upon request, from participating local unions.  Applicants will fill out the application form giving all required information.     No application will be accepted unless properly signed by the President and Recording Secretary of the respective local union.
