Tackling Underage Drinking - A Town Hall Meeting
Thursday, May 15 5:30 at Patterson Auditorium (Guthrie Main Campus in Sayre)
When people hear the phrase "underage drinking" they often think of teenagers using alcohol. However, by the time adolescents reach eighth grade, 44% have had at least one drink and almost 20% report having been "drunk". In a survey of the Bradford County graduation class of 2006, students reported that in eighth grade, 57.3% of them had used alcohol at least once, and that 20.9% had used alcohol in the past 30 days. As high school seniors they reported that 84.6% had used alcohol at least once, and 42.2% had used alcohol in the last 30 days!
The prevalence of drinking increases with age, making it more important than ever to begin teaching youth at an early age about the dangers of alcohol. A panel of community members will provide information and lead a dialogue about this critical issue here in the Valley. Please plan to attend.
